Tips for canal boaters.

It is a wonderful journey. Very relaxing although the locks keep you busy.  You need at least three people on board, preferably four, to manage the boat through the locks.

There are lots of gorgeous villages that you pass through but it does pay to have some bikes to visit ones that are a couple of kilometres away from the canal. It is also great to be able to cycle between the locks and wait for the boat to come through.

The wooden boats are lovely and look great but they don’t have very powerful bow thrusters which can make negotiating the locks more difficult especially if the boat is on the larger size.  The fiberglass boats were better suited to this.

Highly recommend this form of travel!
