The Mamaku Project is born from the meeting of two French-New Zealander artists in 2004 at the Errobiko Festival in the Basque Country (France). Tui Mamaki, evocative multi-lingual voice, calls on Monsieur E., Parisian musician and NZ expat. This experience starts a desire, sketches and a sound aesthetic…
In 2006, they co-produce their first LP “Karekare” which received critical acclaim and sales of +3000 in NZ. A concoction weaving French quirkiness, GypsyPacifica and scents of fine ElectroOriental-Jazz. Created in the breathtaking wilderness of West-coast Aotearoa, this one-of-a-kind poetry rides infectious earthy grooves with a sprinkling of circus…
Linking peoples, landscapes and languages with their unique and festive style The Mamaku Project have been making waves in the NZ Arts/Music Festival scene since. In late 2008, they released their second opus “ Mal de Terre”, followed by their first national NZ tour.
In 2009, a new show is launched at the Auckland Festival in The Famous Spiegeltent. They have taken material from both albums, and some still to be released, and remixed it to fit into the late-night club scene. The ElectrOrganic sessions are premiered with the creative direction of choreographer Wilheemena Isabella Monroe. After touring the electro show in Europe with shows in Berlin, Munich, Paris, Amsterdam The Mamaku Project are back on the roads in Aotearoa/NZ with THE ELECTRoRGANIC SESSIONS (see www.mamakuproject.com for full tour details...)
“Wild flavours of French Cabaret Flirt with the pulse of Electro-Oriental-Jazz…
An intoxicating affair of multi-lingual noir poetry, conjuring Balkan dance floors, spliced with a sprinkling of circus…”
