Montmartre Market
Tauranga Arts Festival
The Historic Village will be taken over by Worlds Within Worlds on Sunday 26 October. Tauranga Arts Festival is collaborating with The Little Big Markets, Night Owl Cinema, The Incubator and the National Jazz Festival to create a day and night of markets, music, movies and more.
Starting at 3pm, the theme of the celebration is Worlds Within Worlds ‘to celebrate the kaleidoscopic place of the arts in our community’ said organizer, Claire Mabey. Everything about the event is in the spirit of celebrating differences, the power of our imaginations and of the collective to come together to create wonderful environments for our people.
Highlights include the always-popular The Little Big Markets running alongside the Montmartre Market created by The Incubator: a French market celebrating the legacy of the chic, the bohemian, the charming and the cheeky. The Montmartre Market complements the 8.30pm Night Owl Cinema screening of French classic, Amelie, the tale of a quirky young woman in Montmarte who invents all sorts of tricks that allow her to intervene incognito into other people's lives …
Entertainment includes a delectable feast of talent from home and away. The Cosmonauts are landing in Tauranga direct from Russia (via Wellington) to play traditional Soviet folk music, mixed with a sprinkling of mid-19th century Balkan pop and Italian chanson. Daughters of Ally are bringing their enchanting harmonies, powerful voices and sisterly chemistry to the mix.
Tauranga’s artistic community is bringing their worlds to the stage with local dance groups, poets and theatremakers revealing their talents across the entertainment line-up. Festival-goers are asked to take part by dressing up – there will be spot prizes for those who get into the spirit by dressing to reflect the Worlds Within Worlds theme.
Join Tauranga Arts Festival & Friends for a celebration of the artistic worlds that make Tauranga a vibrant place to be, and to celebrate one year to go until Tauranga Arts Festival 2015.
